Two players from the different end of the football spectrum shone in this seven-goal thriller.

Adam Wrathall, a product of Dan Hart's Under-23s, who is starting out at senior level, scored four goals, including a first half-hat-trick, while Carlos Edwards, a 45-year-old who has played in a World Cup nabbed two goals for visiting Hadleigh.

Brantham raced to a two-goal lead before Tom Warren pulled one back in a see-saw match with former Ipswich Town and Sunderland midfielder Edwards involved in the build up.

Steve Holder's Hadleigh then drew level through Edwards, before Wrathall completed his hat-trick.

Edwards bagged his brace in the second half to equalise again and Hadleigh pressed for a winner, but Finn Shorten once again made important saves for his team.

It looked as if Brantham were going to throw away yet another two goal advantage before Wrathall found a late fourth and secured just their first win of 2024.

The Imps have won just one, drawn one and lost 11 in three months and face a challenging sequence of five away games in their final run in of six matches in the Eastern Counties Premier.

The club has struggled to recover after a wage dispute between some players and the committee, led to an untenable position for former management duo Pip Boyland and Alex Drennan.

Brantham's off pitch woes continue with a formal complaint being made against vice chairman Darren Smith over financial concerns.
