Formal complaint made against Brantham Athletic vice chairman Darren Smith over financial matters

A former youth coach has made a formal complaint to Suffolk FA over the finial dealings involving Brantham Athletic's vice chairman Darren Smith.

Mr Smith, the former chief executive and chief financial officer at the Brantham Leisure Centre based club, is alleged to to have been complicit in number of financial irregularities.

Although the details of the complaint are being treated as confidential for now, Nub News has had sight of the letter to Suffolk FA, which includes accusations of failing to keep accurate financial records, cash from fundraising was not included in club accounts and falsifying records for fees paid to officials.

The complainant has called on the Suffolk FA, to deal with the complaints under its Charity Complaints procedures. and Mr Smith to be suspended.

Brantham Athletic chairman Roger Peck told Nub News: "I have not been made aware by Suffolk FA of any allegations made by any person or persons against BAFC Vice Chairman, Darren Smith, therefore I have absolutely no comment to make at this time."

Suffolk FA said they would not be commenting on the complaint.

Mr Smith was approached for comment but did not respond.

Meanwhile, on the pitch, Brantham have failed to win any of their 12 league and cup games in 2024, drawing just one, with the committee preferring to play young and relatively inexperienced players.

Nub News revealed earlier this year that problems with payments to senior players had caused some squad unavailability and after four games without a win management duo Pip Boyland and Alex Drennan left the club by mutual consent.
