Takeaway Review: Bristol Arms, Shotley Gate

With many pubs and takeaways fighting a bitter battle just to survive the Hungry Hack has decided to try out each one of the menus we get to know about.

This time, our intrepid writer enjoyed a Sunday special courtesy of the Bristol Arms.

An enticing, mouth-watering aroma wafting up Bristol Hill, was the first indication of how good this was going to be.

A whole spit roast chicken, beautifully cooked, succulent white meat, crispy skin – perfect with the roast potatoes, which were crispy on the outside and fluffy inside.

You can add your own veg at home and there was more than enough for two meals – a bargain at £9 for the chicken and £2.50 for the optional roast tatties.

This is only available Sundays only, cooked on the special spit-roast in the front of the Bristol Arms, and all social distancing protocols are observed, with a specially erected Perspex barrier in the bar area.

A range of other meals and desserts are also available, see menus above, but the Bristol Arms is only open for takeaways Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

As Shane the chef (landlord) is also a member of the Coastguard, it is best phone ahead 787200, with your order, or take a chance and pop down.

Let us know if your local pub is doing takeaway, or if you would like to send in a review of one you have enjoyed, please use the black Nub It button above.
