Woolverstone United boss Clive Catchpole admitted a draw was probably a fair result after being held 1-1 at home by second-placed Saxmundham in SIL Division One at Hazelwoods.

Jack Knill had given United an early lead after a good build up but Sax equalised from the penalty spot moments after the second half restart.

Catchpole was left frustrated as his side failed to take there chances and conceded a soft penalty, but accepted the visitors had probably done enough to take a point.

"I was livid with the penalty," he said. "We have drilled it into them from our kick off hit a corner.

"We didn't, we tried to play it along the back and the centre half has ht it into that direction and while I don't think it should have been a penalty they have got to.

"Apart from that we defended reasonably well and they had two or three good chances as did we.

"It was two evenly matched teams and a draw was probably a fair result."

"It was a well worked goal and Jack put it away nicely. We hit the bar and we had another good chance.

"It is important when you get that first goal to go on and get a second yo get a cushion But we have done something stupid in the first minute of the second half and that has cost us the win."

Opportunities to win the game fell United's way with Marcus Lawrence hitting the crossbar and Hayden Catchpole uncharacteristically missed a golden chance when he fired straight to the keeper after a defender gifted him the ball but the boss was pragmatic about the result.

He added: "I knew Sax were a good side, they have won their past three games and I would have taken a draw beforehand, so I'm reasonably happy."

Woolverstone have had a solid start to the season with just one defeat, away at leaders Thurston last week.

Catchpole said: "I'm pleased with how we are going. We have just lost the one, against probably the best team in the league."

Catchpole is looking to further strengthen his squad ahead of their next game on Saturday when they take on Kesgrave at Hazelwoods.

"There are a couple of possible new signings on the radar," he confirmed.
