It is like chalk and cheese at Woolverstone this season, as they showed with a feisty 2-0 win over rivals Capel Plough at Hazelwoods.

After struggling last season and finishing almost bottom, Woolverstone now look like a side capable of challenging at the top end of SIL Division One in this campaign.

Goals from Jordan Harward and Marcus Lawrence buried Plough and Woolverstone looked good for their win.

It was the manner of the victory that also impressed with good midfield play, solid, organised defending with full backs Harward and Declan Lee also helping provide an added attacking dimension.

Capel hit the woodwork, while United's keeperPaul Dennington made a couple of fine saves to ensure the clean sheet too.

Manager Clive Catchpole has put the transformation down to getting a number of key, players like prolific goal-getter Hayden Catchpole, defender Jason Harward, and attacker Dominic Thrower back from injury, and a clutch of new signings, including centre half David Strike and Luis Monteiro

"We have all our injured players back. Jason is fit, Hayden is fully fit again and Dominic is also back," said Catchpole.

"They were key players that missed much of last season. That is like getting three new signings.

"David is a really good signing, he is our skipper and is a quality player."

A good pre-season with good numbers, and a flying start has helped boost confidence.

Catchpole added: "It is a positive start with two wins and draw in the league. This was good today, we are showing the character is back and they re buzzing.

"We played some really good football and managed the game really well.

"The lads are enjoying their football and is is showing."

Second-placed Woolverstone could go top of the fledgling SIL Division One table next Saturday when go to leaders Thurston. Both cubs are on seven points after a two wins and draw each, but Thurston have a better goal difference.
