After cleaning up in their centenary year last season, Woolverstone United have upped their game off the pitch.

As part of winning promotion to Division One in the Suffolk and Ipswich League (SIL), the small peninsula village club needed to improve the facilities at their Hazelwoods ground.

Widely considered as the prettiest place to play in Suffolk, visitors can now enjoy spruced up facilities, including a band new officials changing room complete with shower.

Referee Paul Kitson cut the colourful ribbon to officially open the dressing room for the men and women in black.

Woolverstone United chairman Craig Catchpole thanked the support they had received from the parish council, sponsors and contractors who had made the £8,000 upgrade possible.

He name checked parish chairman landowner and parish councillor Phil Mayhew, sponsor Kevin Wildng along with parish chairman Simon Pearce, and a contribution for the Suffolk county council's locality award.

Supplies have been donated by Collier and Catchpole , while Dale Sparrow used his electrical experience and work was completed by Fred Gooderhan, David Hazelwood and Mike Clark

Sadly for Woolverstone, they were not able to celebrate with a victory on the Hazelwoods pitch and went down 2-0 to Grundisburgh.

Next up on Saturday, Woolverstone take on table-topping Tattingstone United, whose failure to upgrade their facilities in the village, means they play their homes games at Bourne Vale this season.
