Catchpole confident after Woolverstone show character in defeat
Woolverstone United boss Clive Catchpole picked out the positives after a disappointing home defeat to an ordinary AFC Kesgrave.
After doing well to get the game on, thanks to groundsman Dave Hazelwood, and the pitch's slope helping the natural drainage, United were caught napping in the first half, conceding an sloppy early goal.
They went two down to due a controversial second from Kesgrave but a half-time rollicking worked wonders after the break.
Justin Davies pulled one back and Woolverstone looked more than capable of finding the leveller, but it never came, even with new signing James Harvard leading the line.
"We didn't turn up in the first half," admitted Catchpole. "I felt we were the much better side in the second half and played really well.
"We are just not getting the breaks, like their second goal was high foot and should not have been allowed.
"A few words were said at half time and got a better performance so we have to take that into the next game."
That next game is against peninsula rivals Tattingstone United at Bourne Vale on Saturday.
The two sides then meet at Hazelwoods a fortnight later.
Catchpole said: "It is always a good game against Tatt and if we play the way we did in the second half today we will give them a good game.
"They were top for so long, but they have done this before when they have had wobble and gone the other way.
"It will be interesting."
