An inspired tactical change at half time helped secure victory for Brantham and maintain their unbeaten run in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.

Manager Michael Brothers threw on Tom Lawson to help break down a stubborn Gorelston side and the switch worked a dream as the youngster scored his first senior goal, which turned out to be the winning goal.

Matty Hayden provided the assist as his initial shot was blocked before youth team product Lawson pounced. Hayden had given the Imps a second half lead with a long range effort before Lawson made it two.

The Greens pulled one back but hard working Brantham took their league record to three wins and draw and go into Saturday's FA Cup tie with very in good form.

Former Lakenheath, Mildenhall, Histon and Newmarket goalscorer Hayden is enjoying his stint at village club Brantham with two goals in as many games.

"We made it hard work for ourselves," the 27-year-old told Nub News. "We had chances in the first half so it probably should not have come down to my goals and assist but it was enjoyable.

"Teams have seen what we have done in the FA Cup and most will probably come here and bank up, which is what they did. But after a few wise words from the manager at half time we found a way to break them down and Tom came on to score too."

Brantham entertain Avery FC in the FA Cup second round qualifying at the Leisure Centre ground on Saturday.
