Stutton community cafe: Social hub forced to close due to Coronavirus pandemic

By Derek Davis 17th Mar 2020

Stutton café will offer a take-away service only in the wake of government advice.

The café at Stutton Community Shop, is a popular meeting place in the village where customers serve themselves to cake, rolls, teas and coffees, among other goodies.

However, a statement from prime minister Boris Johnson last night advised those in the above the age of 70, or with underlying medical conditions, should practice social distancing.

That has led the café to only allow people to buy to take away and not congregate.

Jenny Morris, Stutton shop committee member, said: "It is a real shame as many people do enjoy coming here for a chat and to socialise. However, we have to heed government advice.

"We will still be opne for people to by their cakes and other items, and the shop will remain open, while we have the volunteers."

Stutton Community shop helpers have been offering free delivery for people at oak House and have extended that to any other villagers.

Volunteers from the shop, and Stutton Support Network have welcomed new, younger people to the fold as the spread of Covid-19 creates unique circumstances.
