Hundreds of delighted children, mums, dads and grandparents were among villagers and visitors enjoying Queen's Platinum Jubilee Party.

Bathed in sunshine, Brantham's event was the first on the peninsula and set an incredible standard.

Dancers, stilt-walkers, face-painting, bouncy castles, and the tea-pot roundabout were among the many attractions.

Tivoli Rankin, who will be five on Saturday, was among those who sat patiently while their social make up was applied and a dded to the colour.

Brantham's Community Choir sang tradition proms music, a Mad Hatter's Tea Party put on by the village's drama society and some mini football added to the day.

Tug-of-war on a bouncy course proved loads of fun, for contestants and spectators alike.

The ice-cream van did roaring trade, as did the take away kitchen, and beer stall, and such was the summer feel they ran out of Pimms.

The event was put on by the Brantham Leisure Centre and the parish council, utilising a army of volunteers.

Brantham PC chairman Alastair McCraw, dressed in his kilt, was delighted with the events success.

"It is wonderful to see so many people here enjoying themselves," said Cllr McCraw. "We are all about community and this marks the Queen's ethos over 70 years of service and family.

"Of course this could not happen without all the people involved behind the scenes and all the work that has gone on by the performers.

"We want to thank on behalf of the parish and the leisure centre, it has been an excellent partnership."

Tony Hall from the Brantham Leisure Centre added: "It seems like the whole village has turned out and that is beautiful to see.

"It is lovely to see so many people enjoy themselves on this historic occasion."
