Brantham boss Michael Brothers is looking to park last year and approach the second half of the season with positivity.

Boosted by a couple of new players, back to back points gaining games, and renewed determination Brothers has set his sights on not just pushing away from the relegation zone but finishing the second half of the campaign with a flourish.

Although the Imps were held to goalless draw by struggling Long Melford at the Brantham Leisure Centre on the New Year Monday, Brothers is bullish about the upcoming fixtures.

"The way the first half of the season went then the second can only be a positive," said brothers.

"Our aim is to finish as high as we can but my target is for us to get into the top half of the table and stay there.

"We have a top five squad and while we know we can't do that we can finish top half."

After a poor first half a tactical switch at half time livened up the Imps and even though it all turned out to be much ado about nothing nothing, Brothers was please with the way his side responded.

Brother Patrick rattled the cross bar, after Melford had done likewise and some dubious offside decisions, mainly going against Patrick, along with other half chances going begging meant a deadlock.

The result means Long Melford have gone 11 games without a win, going back to last October, while Brothers is pleased to start the new year by picking up a point on the back of their 3-1 win over Swaffham in their last game in mid December.

"Overall we had the better chances especially second half," said Brothers Everything we spoke about at half time we carried out and I felt wed did enough to win the game.

"We take the positives because previously we would have been disappointed with loss, but this is another point on the board and we have gone two unbeaten, which is an achievement in itself, so we will take that.

"We can't blame offsides for not winning we had enough chances to win."

After signing versatile and experienced midfielder Kevin Coyle to replace Jonny Lee who has gone to Hadleigh United, Brothers is not planning on adding any more players to his squad.

"We were missing four or five every week but we have been able to freshen and that is important to keep players on their toes.

"I have known Kev for years, and he is great player for us. He can play anywhere and his experience will help the young players."

With away games at Wroxham and Thetford coming up, the Imps' next home game is on January 29 when they entertain Woodbridge.
