Police enquiries are continuing after a horse died and a young groom was slightly injured and very upset after a van collided with them in Shotley.

The groom was leading the horse ready to cross the B1456 between Shotley and Shotley Gate when the horse was struck by the van and was killed.

Although the groom was relatively unscathed and suffered minor bruising, she was left deeply upset and traumatised by the incident, according to someone close to her.

Police have confirmed no arrests have been made, a road traffic collision report has been filed and enquiries continue into the incident, which happened on November 24, between 7am and 8am.
