With more men than ever looking like Yetis due to lockdown, and enterprising barber is looking to be a cut above the competition when he can get the clippers out again in July.

Rob Argent is set to launch The Peninsula Barber, a mobile service where he will get snipping at your home, office or work place.

After being furloughed from a salon in Felixstowe, the Holbrook-based barber has enjoyed spending more time at home with his family, cooking and taking walks with the dogs and kids, and is keen to have a better work – life balance.

"I have always wanted to run my own barbers and tailor it the way I want it," said Rob. "Being at home has made me realise this is the time to do that.

"It is so much easier for me to go to them at home or wherever they work, than them going to a salon.

"People have such busy lives, this makes sense, whether it is for a tidy up or a beard trim."

Rob, who has more than 20 years' experience in the business, met his wife Sam in a barber's shop in Colchester and she is also a qualified hairdresser, although currently works in the local Co-op.

"Sam can help out if the demand is there," said Rob. "It will be a case of fitting things around first all of, then building the business slowly from there. I'm looking forward to when we can get going."

Although car showrooms and outdoor markets can open from Monday, with non-essential shops allowed to operate from June 15, hairdressers will have to wait until July 4 before than can operate but Rob has scissors and razors and is ready to trim.
