To mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day, Woolverstone Parish Council and Friends of Woolverstone are holding an exhibition that explores the part the village of Woolverstone played in events leading up to D-Day and the following months. An array of information boards will tell the story, supported with a treasure trove of spectacular photographs.
You will find out about:
- The embarkation hard construction programme in southern England, Woolverstone in particular, and what remains to be seen today.
- The Combined Operations base at Woolverstone Hall and the role of HMS Woolverstone,
- The topography of wartime Woolverstone from aerial photographs
- Operation Quicksilver and the secret Bigbobs
- The story of Landing Craft, Tank 7074
- The D-Day timeline - relevant to Woolverstone (April 1st 1944 to August 1st 1944)
