Since last September I have been a member of the Chelmondiston Parish Council and have enjoyed representing the village and assisting with residents concerns. In my short stint so far I have worked to support the School in providing various equipment and arranged a site Bio Diversity survey which has prompted some exciting future developments. I also had the honour and humbling experience of laying the poppy wreath and reading out the names of the fallen during remembrance Sunday.

You may have seen that the 2023 Parish Council election is contested and will go to a vote, there are 12 applicants seeking selection for 11 seats. I feel that this is a positive and serves to allow residents the opportunity to choose and shape their Council. I hope to be one of the 11 Councillors but either way it's great to know that a full set of seats will be occupied on the Council.

I am a 43 year old dad of three and my children all attend Chelmondiston School. I have a busy job and like many on the peninsula own an old uneconomical house that seems a never ending project.  As a result of my own situation I feel I have a good insight into village life as we use all the amenities available and are often out and about.  I live along the main road and share people's concerns over safety and increased traffic and I also recognise and experience the rising costs of living and financial demands on families. I hope this makes me a relatable candidate.

If elected I would like to increase communication between the Council and village residents. We are all truly lucky to live in Chelmondiston and I feel it is important that we work together to maintain the village spirit, seek to resolve residents' concerns and assist with our amenities. The committees behind these amenities, that we all use, work tirelessly giving up their own personal time to keep Chelmondiston assets running which is often challenging for them. I also would look to ensure that various community groups feel supported as they are a vital link for people and their interests.

Therefore I would be genuinely grateful to receive your vote this year on the 4th May.  I also wish the fellow applicants and the current set of Councillors the best of luck during the Parish Council election. Please remember to bring photo I.d to vote.

Thanks, Scott Lyrick
