Frustrated and disappointed Woolverstone United boss Clive Catchpole is confident his struggling side will retain their hard earned Division One status, despite their latest home defeat.

Strugglers Woolverstone have been wracked with injury problems this season and have never been able to find their stride as shown in the 2-0 loss against third placed Somerham at Hazelwoods.

The problems were compounded when skipper Daniel Knights went off injured early on followed by Dominic Thrower with a knee problem.

These follow early season issues when Jordan Hayward broke his collar bone on the opening day, and Woolverstone lost top scorer Hayden Catchpole to a long term injury and he did not get back until after the Christmas break.

Just as concerning was losing captain and top goalkeeper Alex Gibson who left the club in the autumn.

Manager Clive Catchpole bemoaned the club's misfortune after such a brilliant last season when they won the Championship in their centenary season.

"We are still struggling with injuries," said Catchpole. "We have players not long back from long term injury and we lose our captain with hamstring early on, then Dominic has done his knee - that just about sums up our season.

"We can't put out the same side two weeks running and so we have no consistency whatsoever, with injury after injury."

After earning a draw against Capel Plough the week before, Woolverstone slipped to second bottom with this loss and now have home games with Bacon, Cockfield and AFC Kesgrave, before completing their season at leader Tattingstone at Bourne Vale.

However, with only one team going down and Woolverstone 10 points ahead of bottom club Wenhaston, Catchpole is confident United will survive to fight again.

"We always knew this was going to be a tough season," he said, "but it is disappointing to see Somerhsam and Cockfield, who both finished below us last season, are right up near the top, and we have just not been able to progress because the injuries killed us off early on.

"Unless Wenhaston sign a load of players we will stay up. We just need to see out the season, then need to start all over again. We will build for next season."

Meanwhile, unbeaten Tattingstone United stay top despite being held to a 1-1 home draw by Bramford Road Old Boys.
