Shotley's Josh Stokes set to move from Aldershot to Championship club Bristol City

Shotley striker Josh Stokes is due to sign for Championship club Bristol City in a £250,000, plus add-ons deal this week.

The 19-year-old has completed a medical at City's High Performance Centre and agreed personal terms with The Robins and is expected to complete the move from Aldershot Town this week, but immediately return on loan for the rest of the season as part of the deal.

Bristol City, who are currently mid-table in the Championship, are managed by former Ipswich Town Academy coach Liam Manning, who steered The Robins to an FA Cup victory over West Ham last week.

It is understood The Tractor Boys were among a number of clubs scouting Stokes, that including Norwich City, Coventry City and Premier League side Brentford.

Stokes, whose family live in Shotley Gate, regularly returns home from his house share in Aldershot, who he signed for last summer in a £5,000 move from AFC Sudbury.

Stokes, who was released by Ipswich at 16 before joining Sudbury's Academy, has taken the National League by storm this season with a goal in the Shots' 4-2 defeat at Kidderminster on Saturday and has netted 16 goals in 29 games.

According to the Bristol Post, among the add-ons included will be further appearance-based clauses, a 10 per cent sell-on and a provision to play a pre-season friendly at the EBB Stadium this summer, which should generate further revenue for the non-league club.
