Peninsula hockey girls win county title
Holbrook's Royal Hospital School's hockey team produced outstanding performances at the England Hockey U18 County tournament last week.
Two days later their U14s team succeeded in the England Hockey Tier Two Competition.
The U18 team displayed incredible skill and determination throughout the competition, resulting in a well-deserved victory.
The team's first match was against Ipswich School 2nd XI team, which they won 1-0. They went on to win matches against both Finborough School and Ipswich High School meaning they had won three games out of three going into the match against Culford School.
After a very tight game, the result ended 0-0 which meant the team had secured qualification going into its final game against Woodbridge. The girls finished strong and went all out against Woodbridge School, winning 2-0.
The girls win resulted in them being crowned overall champions; the team will now progress on to the East Finals.
The U14's competition was fierce; the first match was against Finborough School, becoming victorious in the second half with a fantastic goal with just four minutes to go, securing a thrilling 1-0 victory.
Another close battle against Woodbridge resulted in a loss, however they had performed well enough overall to secure a place for the East Finals later this term.
Nick Chandler, Head of Hockey at RHS said: "Well done to both teams for this fantastic achievement.
"Winning the first match really lifted the teams' spirits for the U18 team and provided the platform for them to push on and continue with positive results.
"The U14 team showed great game management in their competition too, sealing the deal with their victory against Finborough School. Best of luck to both teams for the next round!"
