Players and staff at a peninsula football club have taken part in a life-saving course, after an incident with Denmark's Christian Eriksson brought the need into sharp focus.
Woolverstone United had already booked the course before Eriksson's life was saved by the quick actions and availability of a defibrillator after he suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch in the Dane's first game in the Euros.
More than 20 people attending the course at the Hazelwood's ground in Woolverstone last night with CPR, defibrillator use, and the recovery position among the subjects covered by the Ipswich branch of the Royal Life Saving Society.
Julie Catchpole, club secretary, said: "Before the incident that happened at the Euros that made everyone sit up and think, we had already discussed and booked a course called Save A Life run by Royal Life Saving Society, as we felt it was very important that everyone involved in the club had the knowledge of how to save a life.
"This was made more relevant following on from the Euros and the knowledge gained on this course could save a life."
Ericsson suffered his heart attack in a group match against Finland and the prompt action by medical staff made sure he was swiftly taken to hospital where he made a full recovery.
