Who and what is open on the peninsula as we cautiously adopt lockdown easing

By Derek Davis

13th May 2020 | Local News

For those on the peninsula coming out of an enforced hibernation they will find petrol is less than a £1 a litre at Morrisons, car repair garages garden centres, and host of other businesses are doing takeaways, food-shops and post offices in opening, with more traders cautiously looking at getting back to normal.

Despite the seemingly ambiguous message from government regarding the change in lockdown guidelines, business owners are beginning to make their own decisions about reopening on the peninsula and beyond.

Common sense is prevailing as people look to adopt the 'Stay Alert' message, while ensuring they are staying safe, and at the same time making sure their staff and customers are kept as safe as possible too.

Some places, food shops and takeaways, for example, have stayed open but from tomorrow even more will be joining them and some have even started already, while others have no choice bit to stay at home.

Here we look and list all those businesses already open, are planning to open this week, and those that have to stay closed.

We will update daily as the informations comes in to us.

If we have missed you, or want to let us know when you will be opening, please contact [email protected].

None essential shops, like estate agents, are still not permitted to open and that this may be reviewed in early June, depending on infection rates.

The government roadmap has also outlined Step Three – which will be from no earlier than July 4.

More businesses and premises to open, including potentially those offering personal care such as leisure facilities, public places, and places of worship.

People are to stay alert by:

  • Working from home if you can;
  • Limiting contact with other people;
  • Keeping distance if you go out - two metres apart where possible;
  • Washing your hands regularly;
  • Wearing a face covering when you are in enclosed spaces where it's difficult to be socially distant - for example in some shops and on public transport;

and if you or anyone in your household has symptoms, you all need to self-isolate.
