Royal Hospital School celebrates opening of its new Sixth Form Centre

THE Royal Hospital School (RHS) in Holbrook, Suffolk has announced the opening of its brand-new Sixth Form Centre, a beautifully designed, purpose-built space that will support, inspire and empower pupils in Years 12 and 13 as they prepare for life beyond school.
Created to reflect the growing independence and maturity of their sixth formers, the new centre offers a dedicated environment for study, socialising, collaboration and reflection. Rooted in the principles of biophilic design, it brings the outside in, using greenery, natural materials and open spaces to promote wellbeing and balance in the school day.
The centre was developed in close collaboration with pupils and staff, with a pupil committee working alongside the Head of Sixth Form to shape both its function and identity. Artwork from RHS's Creative Centre, created by pupils, adds a personal and inspiring touch to the interiors, while feedback gathered from pupils throughout the planning process has directly influenced the layout, facilities and feel of the space.
Among the standout features are a modern café, integrated technology for collaborative work, and a variety of areas tailored to different needs, from quiet study zones to more relaxed social spaces. The centre flows seamlessly into the school's library, creating a flexible learning environment that mirrors the experience of higher education and the world of work.
It is a place where pupils can focus, connect, and grow, both academically and personally.
Speaking about the opening, Headmaster Irfan Latif said: "The new Sixth Form Centre reflects the values we hold dear at RHS – independence, creativity, community and wellbeing. It offers our oldest pupils a space of their own: one that supports the demands of post-16 study, but also encourages balance, reflection and connection. This is more than just a building, it is a launchpad for the next stage of their lives."
The project was made possible thanks to the leadership of the school community and the generosity of supporters, including contributions through the Annual Fund and parental donations that helped bring the centre's green vision to life. The Annual Fund, supported by the Friends of RHS through community events like Burns Night and the Christmas Fayre, raises money for projects that enrich school life beyond the scope of regular budgets.
As the new academic year begins, the Royal Hospital School is proud to offer its sixth formers a space that reflects who they are, and who they are becoming, independent, thoughtful and ready for the future.
