Police cordoned off a section of road in Shotley today after smoke from a house fire caused a potential danger to motorists.
Three fire crews tackled the kitchen fire in Great Harlings in Shotley Gate between 10.20am and 12.30pm today.
There were no reports of injury, although there was smoke damage the family home.
Suffolk Fire Service asked police to close a section of the road at Great Harlings between the junctions with Tudor Close and the link road to Kirton Close as a safety precaution.
A Suffolk fire spokeswoman said: "A road closure was put in place to ensure public safety, with the smoke and presence of three fire engines potentially obscuring visibility for drivers."
Crews from Holbrook, Ipswich East and Princes Street all attended, with one being stood down at 12.26 and crews stayed on the scene with police as a precaution.
The road was re-opened at around 1.30pm.
