A tractor driver escaped unhurt when his farm vehicle crashed into a wall at Woolverstone and became stuck.
Witnesses told Nub News it appears the driver was trying to avoid an oncoming fertiliser tanker on the narrow Main Road when he lost control and careered into the wall of the Old School House in the village.
It is not uncommon for large and agricultural vehicles to go up on a kerb, usually when they meet a coach or lorry at a pinch point, close to where this accident occurred.
The tractor, which was hauling a load of freshly harvested potatoes, was embedded in the wall for more than two hours causing minor delays between 5pm and 7pm last night. Some of his load was left strewn along the B1456 and quickly became mash.
Although there was no suggestion of any speeding in this incident, Woolverstone villagers have long since campaigned for action against drivers going too fast through the small village, and there has also been a call locally fo install a sign warning drivers that the road narrows.
The accident follows a similar incident involving a BMW driver last year crashing into a garden wall, close to this accident.
No further action was taken against that driver, who had not been speeding or committing any other offences.
