Peninsula landlord's rude awakening as bus hits pub wall

A peninsula publican was given a rude awakening when a bus hit his front wall, completely demolishing a large section.

Shane Rolin heard a loud bang at just after 8am, but it was the commotion made by his dog Delta, that alerted him to the extent of the damage to the Bristol Arms patio area.

An early morning number 97 Ipswich bus accidentally collided with the wall knocking it over, fortunately the 19 century pub building was not damaged.

The driver popped a note apologising, and accepting full responsibility, through the front door of the popular waterfront pub and restaurant.

"Given the bigger picture this is a minor irritant," said Mr Rolin. "The driver apologised, the bus company are aware and everything will be sorted through their insurance.

"These things happen."

Like all peninsula pubs, the Bristol Arms has been closed since the end of March, although has tried offering limited takeaways.

Ipswich Buses have been approached for comment.
