Peninsula pub brings smiles with quirky Christmas tree

After a year where the world was turned upside down for most of us, what better way to mark Christmas than with a topsy-turvy tree.

Held up by Superman, the decorated Christmas tree at the Bakers Arms in Harkstead, has been a real head turner since being put up by Lybi, Ross and their two children in the pub garden.

The eye-catching 12ft pine, from Sam Wrinch's farm in Harkstead, has been decorated with white ribbons and family trinkets along with traditional twinkling lights for our long, dark nights.

Landlady Lybi came up with the idea, setting Ross and Sam the challenge of putting it up, so they recruited Superman (and Geoff Mayhew's cherry-picker) to help make it happen, while the angel got a bit confused and ended up showing her knickers.

"After the year we have had I wanted to bring a smile to people," said Lybi. "What better way after our topsy-survey year than to have a topsy-survey tree?"

Regulars can enjoy the tree when they visit the grocery shop within the pub, and customers can grab selfies either before crater eating and drinking at the pub when lockdown ends on Wednesday.

Be careful though, there is a huge bunch of mistletoe hanging from the outside eaves of the Bakers, with kissing allowed only for those within their bubbles.

You can get your own special Christmas tree from Sam Wrinch's farm, (no extra charge for upside down trees). Just follow the arrowed signs, which you will be able to see dotted all around the peninsula very soon.
