Shotley peninsula MP James Cartlidge is likely to be overlooked by the new prime minister Liz Truss when she announces her new cabinet tomorrow.

Ms Truss was named the winner of the leadership contest by Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the 1922 Committee of Conservative backbench MPs.

She won 81,326 votes, compared with 60,399 for former chancellor Rishi Sunak and will go to balmoral tomorrow to be officially named Pm by the Queen.

She will then confirm her cabinet and junior minister posts.

There is unlikely to be any senior role for South Suffolk MP James Cartlidge, who was a Mr Sunak supporter.

Mr Cartlidge is currently the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Ministry of Justice. 

He has previously the PPS to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, under Mr Sunak.

Mr Cartlidge has been approached for comment.

Meanwhile, Felixstowe MP Thérèse Coffey, is expected to be named health secretary by new prime minister Liz Truss when she announces her cabinet tomorrow night.

Suffolk Coastal's Ms Coffey is currently the work and pensions secretary, has been a devoted supporter of Ms Truss from the beginning of the leadership campaign after Boris Johnson was ousted as prime minister.

It is understood Ms Truss sees fellow East Anglian MP Ms Coffey as her right hand woman in cabinet and will deal with the NHS crisis.

Ms Truss said she would make getting sick people access to GP appointments "one of my key priorities" and told the BBC: "It is a priority for the public, and it's a priority for me, to make sure we're delivering for people."
