Peninsula cyclists urged to sign up for Suffolk firefighters' Sunday charity ride across the river

Cyclists are being urged too leave the wonderful peninsula this Sunday and instead sign up for a a charity ride across the river.

Felixstowe Fire Station and Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service are inviting cyclists of all abilities to join them in taking part in their annual cycle sportive, the Suffolk Fire Ride.

Starting at Felixstowe Fire Station, this year's routes will be set amongst the lovely rural lanes and beautiful rolling countryside found in east Suffolk and will raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

The event is being organised with safety in mind and COVID secure arrangement will be shared with all participants prior to the event.

Hosted by Felixstowe Fire Station, the ride takes place on Sunday 4 July 2021, and offers a choice of two signed distances – 50Km and 100Km, plus a local family route.

Dan Fearn, Interim Chief Fire Officer for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, said: "The Suffolk Fire Ride is a much loved and eagerly anticipated annual event, and we are always grateful for the support of those taking part and their family and friends.

"The ride is open to cyclists of all abilities and the money raised from the event will go towards supporting fire fighters across the country through the Fire Fighters Charity."

The Suffolk Fire Ride is a friendly cycle sportive suitable for all levels of riders and promises to be an event for all the family to enjoy with Felixstowe being a seaside town, with attractions for all the family, local shops, pier and amusements. All participants will receive a limited edition 2021 Suffolk Fire Ride medal.

Event details:

Date: Sunday 4 July 2021

Venue: Felixstowe Fire Station, High Road West, Felixstowe IP11 9BB

Time: 8am, Registration opens 7.00am

Distances: 50Km, 100Km, plus Family Route

The online entry fee for any distance is £20 (registration fees apply) with a guarantee that no less than £17 per entry goes to the Fire Fighters Charity. On the day entry £30. Family Route £5.

Entry Rules

All participants enter this event entirely at their own risk. Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service and The Fire Fighters Charity shall not be liable for any injury or loss that might occur as a result of their participation.

By entering into the event, participants agree to adhere to the COVID secure arrangements (details will be provided to each participant).

Any participant unsure of their physical ability to take part in this event must take medical advice from a general practitioner prior to the event.

All participants understand that this is not a race and agree to abide by the rules of the Highway Code, and follow the advice, direction and instruction of the event organiser or event volunteers to ensure a safe and successful event.

All participants confirm that their bicycles are roadworthy, in good repair and suitable for use in the event.

All participants will wear a cycle helmet conforming to European Safety Standards.

All participants will register on arrival and on leaving any checkpoints.
