Worried residents that have been asked to give details by email for Babergh's annual canvass have been assured it is not a scam.

The annual canvass process is designed to help streamline the process as Babergh continues to encourage residents to update their household details online.

The councils will contact residents across the district by email or letter to request that they check their details on the electoral register are up to date.

Derek Davis, Babergh cabinet member and councillor for Ganges ward, moved to reassure residents after some expressed concerns.

"I have had people asking me if this is genuine, given the various scams going round," he said. "I can assure you it is, and I would urge everyone to respond. It is relatively simple and hugely important to making the voting process in Babergh even better."

  • Residents are asked to respond online at www.registersecurely.com
  • It only takes a few minutes to confirm your details or make changes using the two-part security code received in the email.
