Peninsula Co-ops among shops recalling range of popular food items

Peninsula shoppers have been warned a number of food items could be unsafe and have been recalled.

The Co-op, which includes shops at Holbrook and Brantham, Morrisons, Lidl and Tesco in Ipswich, are among stores that have issued recalls to products, including John West Sardines, Coca Cola, Walls Mini Callippo, Revels and various Branston products.

If you have bought an affected item, you can return it to where you bought it for a full refund, even without a receipt.

These items can pose a risk, including injury if the food contains glass or metal, and allergy issues if an ingredient isn't declared on the packaging.

Food recalls are published by the Food Standards Agency and always available to the public.

Here are all of the newest product recalls and what you should do if you have bought them:

Co-op

These items from the Co-op have been recalled.

Sliced Pepperoni

The Co-op's sliced pepperoni is being called back because E. coli O157 has been found in it.

Pack size: 70g

Use-by: May 19, 2020

Frozen Hash Browns

Packs of frozen hash browns are also being recalled as they may contain something they shouldn't.

There is fears that pieces of white plastic may be in the product, making it unsafe to eat.

Pack size: 700g

Best before: July 2021

Chicken and stuffing sandwiches

All batches of Chicken and stuffing sandwiches have also been recalled over safety fears.

The sandwiches way contain metal so are unsafe to consume.

Lidl

Lidl GB is recalling Baresa Pesto alla Genovese (Green) and Baresa Red Pesto because they may contain peanuts, which are not mentioned on the label. This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts.

]Wall's Mini Calippo

A batch of these summer treats have been recalled as they may contain "small pieces of metal".

The FSA have said the presence of this metal means that these ice lollies are "unsafe to eat" and should not be consumed.

Unilever said in a statement: "Wall's is taking the precautionary measure of recalling a limited batch of Wall's Mini Calippo Orange & Lemon-Lime multi-packs as internal quality checks have shown they may contain very small fragments of metal.

"The safety of the people that buy and use our products is always our number one priority which is why we are taking the precaution of recalling this limited number of Wall's Mini Calippo Orange & Lemon-Lime multi-packs.

"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank everyone for their co-operation."

All products with a best before date of April 2022 or May 2022 have been affected.

Wall's Mini Calippo Orange & Lemon-Lime multi-packs (6 x 480ml) with the batch codes of  L0121, L0122, L0123, L0124, L0125 and L0126 have all been recalled.

No other Wall's products have been affected.

John West Sardines in Tomato Sauce

Tinned sardines in tomato sauce by John West are being recalled because of suspected bacterial contamination.

This possible contamination has made a number of cans swell and could mean it is unsafe to eat.

Affected batches have a best before date of June 2022.

Revels

Pouches of Revels have been called back because of fears they may contain small pieces of metal following a mechanical breakdown.

The small bits of metal could pose a health and safety risk so they are not safe to eat.

Branston Pickle

A large number of Branston products have been recalled by Mizkan Euro Ltd.

The variety of products could contain pieces of plastic, making them unsafe to eat.

Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola have recalled one of their biggest products as it could cause injury.

Their 1.5 litre bottles PET bottles of Coca-Cola Original Taste could have damaged neck rings.

This fault means that the bottle rim could have sharp edges and cause injury when opened.

The company have warned people to be careful when opening the bottles and return them if they pose a risk.
