New Year's Day Peninsula Breakfast Briefing

By Derek Davis

1st Jan 2021 | Local News

Did you know?

If you like to start the new year with a good omen, then have a bacon sandwich for breakfast. It's thought that eating pork is lucky for the New Year, as pigs put their feet forward. If you're strictly vegan, load up on extra green vegetables instead. Eating green is said to be very lucky on January 1.

To avoid bad luck, don't do your dishes, laundry and other chores as one tradition says you should leave the laundry pile until January 2 Apparently, the old wives who invented this tale didn't enjoy doing their washing at all. It's also believed it 'flushes good fortune down the drain'. Another superstition is much darker, suggesting a laundry load completed on January 1 will 'wash a family member away' in the year ahead.
