The popular Red Lion in Chelmondiston has been forced into introducing new car parking restrictions directly outside its pub after losing customers due to others using their spaces.

New signs and cameras will be going up Thursday 9th November ahead of the system going live from 13th November, when they reopen for the week.

The new restrictions have been implemented at the Red Lion car parking area due to regular abuse of its parking spaces.

Owners Chandramauli and Bhumika Dwivedi said: "Our guests have been facing problems parking at our venue, especially during school holidays and weekend, which has meant we are suffering a loss of trade."

Red Lion customers will still be able to park free of charge, but will need to register their vehicle with pub staff.

The Red Lion owners made the decision after consultation with neighbouring business owners at Hollingsworth's and Hers & Sirs.

Going forward there will 10 minutes free parking available so that Hollingsworth's store customers can still use the parking area to do their short stay shopping,

Chef Mauli added: "We did have a consultation with the business owner James, who agreed with our thought process and we are very mindful that local people can still come use the shop and post office.

"As for our lovely hairdressers Hers and Sirs, there will be a tablet installed to register their vehicle on arrival so customers can also park for free while using the hairdressers."

On Mondays and Tuesdays, when the Red Lion is closed, the car park will be used on a pay as you go basis.

Chef Mauli said: "We have outsourced the car park management to a different company so that we can concentrate on our operations and do what we do best provide freshly cooked seasonal food, and fine wines and ales.

"It is shame we have been forced into introducing these car parking measure but really feel we have been left no choice and believe villagers and customers will understand.

"We look forward to a busy festive period and our patrons having ease of parking their car easily and securely in our car parking area."
