This Monday one year ago Shotley Peninsula Nub News was launched to serve our area with a hyperlocal news service. Since then more than 106,000 different people have read the articles on our website, making nearly half a million page impressions.

Not bad for a small corner of Suffolk with a combined population of around 10,000, so we are delighted that such a high percentage of villagers regularly come to us for all the latest hyperlocal news and features - and we want to say thank you for your support.

The time has flown by in what has been an incredible, unprecedented and difficult year but Nub News has endeavoured to bring you the stories that matter throughout, supported by our fabulous sponsors Spring Lodge in Woolverstone (Kingsley Healthcare) and all our contributors.

While Covid-19 stories, including tributes paid to those who have been lost to the pandemic, have attracted most hits, among the best read articles enjoyed by you over the year have been workers through the night to recover a digger on the beach, the wonderful gesture made by postmaster Manish Patel handing out treats to villagers, Griff Rhys Jones' battle with cyclists, furore over Black Lives Matter banner, disciplinary problems at Holbrook Academy, Woolverstone boy on the Voice Kids, Peninsula footballer and coach now a World Cup manager, and Kidzone teaming up with Fare Share.

Our Up Close features have provoked a positive reaction as we highlight the every day personalities that make up the fabric of the peninsula community. This includes, local volunteers, business owners, refuse collectors, milkmen, shop-workers, school heads, charity organisers and Highland cattle.

We have helped promote fund raisers, campaigners and community groups as they seek vital funding, whether it is ahead shave or yomps across the peninsula, virtually up Everest or the London marathon, and encourage you to let us know when you would like a little extra free promotion.

On top of daily news stories we have have property, jobs, classified and live travel sections which are updated daily. Our Property of the Week feature is popular with house hunters and those of us that like looking at what is on the market.

Our daily Breakfast Briefing has a raft of helpful contacts, opening times, timetables and other interesting facts and fun bits to get your day off to a good start and we welcome contributions from you the reader. You will have seen local councillors, vicars and YouTubers send us their contributions and you are welcome to join them.

Our black Nub It button allows you to send in articles to share with other Nub News readers, or for businesses of all sizes to advertise on our Local List directory, or (when hospitals and event organisers are fully open gain) our What's On page.

Of course, life is not all great food, views and flowers, but we have not been afraid to scrutinise council decisions, issues in local schools, and have exposed those involved in criminal activity and we will continue to ask the difficult questions when necessary.

Although we are active on social media, with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, more and more people are coming directly to our easy to navigate web pages. You can keep up with our top stories, and exclusive article, by signing up for our weekly Newsletter.

Our parent company Nub News now has nearly 70 town in the UK, Shotley peninsula was the 29th, and we continue to grow as a hyperlocal news provider. Read all about the Nub News story so far here.
