An elderly lady escaped serious harm after losing control of her hire vehicle, which crashed into the home of a former postmaster in Shotley Gate.

The woman walked away relatively unscathed after losing control of the Dacia Sendaro at the top of Bristol Hill earlier today, before being taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

Police and and an ambulance arrived on the scene around early lunchtime and carried on investigating until gone 2pm.

Damage was caused to the house belonging to Barrie Powell, and trailer packed with asbestos, was hit during the incident.

Mr Powell, who was out helping with a bee incident near Saxmundham at the time, returned home to assess the damage later in the afternoon.

An insurance surveyor will inspect suspected damage to the structure and foundations of the home.
