Holbrook Primary School Careers Day

At Holbrook, our Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE) subject review showed that many of our pupils have similar career goals.

These were mainly to be a footballer, dancer, YouTuber or gamer.

This led to the teacher in charge of PSHE arranging for a group of volunteer family members to come into school on Wednesday 11th March and run a careers fair.

The afternoon, which involved adults speaking to small groups for around five minutes about their jobs, was a resounding success.

Each adult set up engaging displays and brought in props to go alongside their presentations giving the pupils a real insight into a range of professions.

Our pupils, who asked lots of great questions, were inspired to broaden their ideas and open their minds to other career possibilities.

A huge thank you to the following people who helped make this brand new event in our busy school calendar such a positive experience for our pupils:

Mrs Smith & Mrs Wrinch – Veterinary Nurse and Surgeon

Ms Evans- Digital Designer

Mr Coburn - Firefighter

Mrs Gladwell – Maternity Care/Midwife

Mrs Sims – Horse Care

Mrs Hesketh – Landscape Architect

Mrs Healy – Construction and employability skills

Mr. Knighton - Police Force

Mr Simpson – Finance – Trading

Mrs Vickers - Nursing

Mr Woodger – Journalism with BBC

Mrs Bradshaw – NHS Children's mental health and social care

We very much enjoyed our careers day and are proud to have been able to give our

pupils an opportunity that would normally only take place when they reach High

School. Careers Day is now a firm fixture on our school calendar.
