Concerns over hundreds of migratory and wintering birds being disturbed dogs barking are among the objections to a proposed new dog meadow close to the Strand.
An application has been made to use agricultural land alongside Freston Hill, to allow dogs to run free, along with fencing and a dedicated car park, has been made to Babergh District Council by >>>>>
However, since Nub News published the story last Tuesday, objections from a number of people on the Shotley peninsula have been lodged on the Babergh planning website, including the owners of very close neighbours at Monkey Lodge
Comments from the 10 objectors, so far, include in part:
The noise made by up to a dozen dogs, which would affect the migratory and wintering birds along the foreshore Orwell, which is part of a Special Protected Area, and within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB.
Geese and ground nesting birds that regularly use the meadow already would be disrupted by the activity.
Fencing and other borders would affect the views to and from the AONB, also contrary to policy.
Concerns over access, especially on to a known dangerous stretch of the B1456 between Freston Hill and the Strand, where there was recently a fatal collision.
Despite Babergh's Environmental team raising no objection, claiming there would be no noise or smell, Monkey Lodge tridents would be just five metres from the eastern boundary, and believe their peace would be detrimentally affected.
Although not a planning consideration, to was pointed out that a popular dog walking meadow in a more suitable location already provides for pets on the peninsula.
Due to the controversial nature of the application, the consultation period date has been extended until Tuesday, November 14.
