A second dog walking meadow is being planned for the Shotley peninsula.

A Tuddenham woman, who already runs a dog walking area on the Felixstowe peninsula side of the river Orwell, has applied for planning permission to open a meadow, complete with six foot (two metres) fencing and a car park on agricultural land close to Monkey Lodge and the Stoke Sailing Club.

Jemma Dyter of Tuddenham Hall, Tuddenham St Martin, wants a change of use of land from agricultural to dog walking an area owned by the Paul family on Freston Hill, with access via the small public track leading down to the foreshore.

The site is within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to breeding and migratory birds that visit the Strand every year.

There is also a public right of way alongside the proposed site, which would prevent a locked gate on the track.

Up to 12 dogs would be able to use the meadow at any one time, however, Babergh's environmental team have stated they do not see any problems with noise or smells from dogs using the site.

"They said in a statement: "Having reviewed the proposal, there are no noise or odour issues foreseen from retaining the current use, therefore Environmental Protection does not have any objections to the application."

Neighbours have until Friday, October 27 to add their comments to the Babergh planning site here, using DC/23/04391.

The move follows the growing success of Pear Tree Paws, a secure dog meadow, opposite Wades Lane, alongside the B1456 between Chelmondiston and Shotley which was opened by Richard and Martine Carless next to their home.
