Traffic coming and going from the Shotley peninsula was today held up as emergency services dealt with an incident at the top of the Orwell Bridge.

A person in dark clothing was spotted leaning over the concrete barrier of the bridge at around 1pm today prompting a serious incident response.

An RNLI rescue craft from Harwich stationed itself under the bridge near thee Strand at the river Orwell.

Police and specialists dealt with the person and blocked motorists from driving past in both directions.

A police vehicle was spotted escorting a car tp the scene through the middle of traffic on the A14 heading eastbound.

The A14 was reopened at around 3pm today.
