'Below average' Holbrook Academy rated among worse schools in Suffolk.

Holbrook Academy has been rated below average in the latest performance figures released by the Government.

The school finished 35th out of 45 academies in Suffolk, with an overall below average rating of -0.28% for its key Stage 4 students.

The markings were based on 113 pupils included in the Progress 8 category, which shows how much progress pupils at this school made between the end of key stage 2 and the end of key stage 4, compared to pupils across England who got similar results at the end of key stage 2.

Only 34% of Holbrook students achieved a Grade Five or better in their English or Maths GCSEs.

The report stated that Holbrook pupils achieved up to half a grade lower in each qualification on average, compared to similar pupils across the country.

This is based on results in up to eight qualifications, which include English, maths, and three English Baccalaureate opens in a new window  qualifications including sciences, computer science, history, geography and languages, and three other additional approved qualificationsopens in a new window .

Former headmaster Tom Maltby was replaced in the summer by acting-head George Anstee-Parry, whose salary is quoted on the school website as between, £80k-£90k.

Debenham High School was the the best performing school with an above average marking of 0.71, with 61% of its students achieving Grade Five or better in their English or Maths GCSEs.

The worst performers was SET Beccles School with an average of -1.71 and only 19% its students achieving Grade Five or better in their English or Maths GCSEs.
