Alex Brunt has raised nearly £10,000 for St Elizabeth Hospice by running 51 miles in one day, in memory of his Dad, Richard Brunt.
Taking place on 24th March, which would have been Richard's 75th birthday, Alex's route saw him run from Sudbourne Marshes, passing through Woodbridge, Washbrook, Harkstead and Bucklesham, before finishing at Kirton & Falkenham Village Hall, near where his parents lived.
Richard received support from St Elizabeth Hospice during the final week of his life, before his death on 14th October in 2023 from bile duct cancer - also known as cholangiocarcinoma.
Alex, who is from Nacton, said: "From the very beginning when I decided to take on this challenge, the support from everyone has been simply amazing. I can't believe how kind and generous people have been in giving their time and money to support two brilliant charities and raise what I can only describe as an astonishing amount of money.
"The longest training run I had done was marathon distance, so when we made the halfway point at Washbrook, I was entering unchartered territory! However, the awesome support I received from my wife, Caroline, who was on her bike with me the whole way around, as well as my whole support crew was fantastic and really got me through.
"I hope the money we've raised can help just that little bit for both St Elizabeth Hospice and Alan Morement Memorial Fund to continue to help others in the future."
Funds raised by Alex's challenge will go towards the Alan Morement Memorial Fund - the UK's only charity dedicated solely to research into cholangiocarcinoma – and to St Elizabeth Hospice
An independent Suffolk charity, which every year delivers specialist palliative care to more than 4,000 people living with a progressive or life-limiting illness, and their families, throughout East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney.
Kelly Nekrews, Community Fundraiser at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: "A huge well done to Alex for completing this brilliant challenge for the hospice, in memory of his Dad.
"You have done incredible and have raised a fantastic amount of money, which will make such a difference to the patients and families under the care of St Elizabeth Hospice, throughout East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney."
