The family of a 21-year who died following a road traffic collision last night have paid tribute to him.

Thomas Peter Pickering from Woolverstone was killed when his Kia Creed was involved in a three-car collision on the A137 between Brantham and Tattingstone.

Mr Pickering's family issued the tribute via Suffolk police

It said: "Tom to his friends. Only 21 years of age, he was a hard worker and a talented artist and musician with a cheeky sense of humour. A very much-loved son, boyfriend and friend to those who were lucky enough to have known him."

Police were called just after 10.45pm yesterday, Wednesday 26 August, to reports of a collision involving three vehicles; a Kia Ceed, a Saab 9-3 and a Volkswagen Golf.

A passenger in the vehicle, a woman aged in her 20s, and the driver of the Saab, a teenage woman, was taken to Ipswich Hospital with a serious head injury.

The driver the Volkswagen, a woman aged in her thirties, suffered minor injuries.

The A137 road between the crossroads close to the Tattingstone Wheatsheaf and the junction next to the Bull at Brantham was still closed until 11am this morning, with motorists advised to take a diversion route through Stutton.

Councillor Alastair McCraw, Babergh member for Brantham offered his condolences and said: "The loss of life is a tragedy of course and my sympathies go to those affected.

"This is a well maintained and absolutely straight piece of road between two 30mph zones in Tattingstone and Brantham. Regular users of the A137 will have seen reckless speeds and overtaking manoeuvres along here for many years. I observed multiple vehicles at speeds of 70 or so at the accident spot."

Emergency services were called to the incident just after 10.30pm last night and police today confirmed one fatality.

Police are appealing for any witnesses – including anyone with dashcam footage of the incident - to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference CAD 458 of 26 August.
