UPDATED: Police are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 20s died following a three vehicle collision in Brantham.

A Kia Ceed, a Saab, and a Volkswagen Golf crashed on the A137 last night, with man dying at the scene and two women needing hospital treatment, while a third escaped relatively unhurt.

A passenger in the vehicle, a woman aged in her 20s, and the driver of the Saab, a teenage woman, were taken to Ipswich Hospital with a serious head injury, while the driver of the Volkswagen, a woman aged in her thirties, suffered minor injuries.

Meanwhile, a district councillor has slammed impatient drivers who were rude to council workers that closed the road while police carried out an investigation into the fatal accident.

The A137 road between the crossroads close to the Tattingstone Wheatsheaf and the junction next to the Bull at Brantham was still closed until 11am this morning, with motorists advised to take a diversion route through Stutton.

Councillor Alastair McCraw, Babergh member for Brantham was appalled at th behaviour of some drivers and told Nub News: "The abuse being given to Highways officials because of the road closure and signage was completely unacceptable. The rush to get somewhere is what causes these sorts of accidents.

"This is a well maintained and absolutely straight piece of road between two 30mph zones in Tattingstone and Brantham. Regular users of the A137 will have seen reckless speeds and overtaking maneuvers along here for many years. I observed multiple vehicles at speeds of 70 or so at the accident spot.

"The loss of life is a tragedy of course and my sympathies go to those affected."

Emergency services were called to the incident just after 10.30pm last night and police today confirmed one fatality.

Any witnesses – including anyone with dashcam footage of the incident - are asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference CAD 458 of 26 August.
