Spring Lodge carers sweet way of putting smile on faces

Staff from Spring Lodge brought a smile to scores of Shotley people when they handed out freshly baked cream cup cakes.

Emily and Vanessa surprised residents and staff at the surgery, shop and pubs, with the five dozen yummy cakes before quickly running out.

"We just wanted to make people happy," said Emily Cannel, Spring Lodge activities coordinator. "We know there are still some elderly people shielding, or not going out as much so we knocked on doors at random.

"We also wanted to say thank you to those businesses we know have done so much for the community, like the staff at the shop, surgery and pubs."

The surprised recipients were delighted with the visit and treat, with some making sure their neighbours didn't miss out by saving a couple for them too.
