Farmers have been put on standby to help out with gritting on Shotley peninsula roads, as highways chiefs insist they are ready for the new winter season despite challenges around fuel and HGV driver supply.
The move follows data which shows winter gritting runs in Suffolk have nearly doubled from 30 years ago.

A peninsula primary school has been hailed by Ofsted inspectors for providing an environment where poor behaviour or incidents of bullying rarely occur.
Chelmondiston Church of England Primary School, was graded good in all categories by the educational watchdog in it first report since it became part of the St Edmundsbury and Ipswich Diocesan Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) in 2017.

Police are appealing for witnesses or information after three bicycles were stolen from an outbuilding in Brantham.
The incident occurred between 12.30am and 2am on Thursday 30 September within an outbuilding at an address in Ipswich Road.
