Butt & Oyster lockdown takeaway review

With many pubs and takeaways fighting a bitter battle just to survive the Hungry Hack has decided to try out each one of the menus we get to know about.

The latest is the Butt and Oyster at Pin Mill, famed for its beautiful location, Arthur Ransome and a litany of barge, boat-building and fishing characters.

Choosing from the Butt and Oyster takeaway menu displayed here on our Local List, we kept it simple and went for the burgers. My meaty burger, the weight wasn't displayed but it had to be at least a quarter-pounder of pure beef, came with gherkin, lettuce, tomato and an excellent burger sauce.

Equally the Cajun chicken burger was tender, filling and tasty. That came with sriracha mayo, gherkin, lettuce tomato. we didn't want the mayo and the person taking our order could not have been more helpful and offering separate alternative (in our case a small tub of barbecue sauce.

We opted in for the additional bacon and cheese for an extra pound, ideal topping for both burgers and the meals were of the quality you would expect from the Butt.

For the non-meat eaters there are vegan options, and either scampi or the catch of the day as fish options. The menu also offers bottles of wide or beverages to takeaway too.

The whole process was easy. From placing the order and paying by card over the phone. Clear instructions on how to collect, and at what time. Plentiful parking if you need to wait, with world famous views to enjoy.

Takeaways are now available Wednesday to Sunday, 12 noon until 8pm.

This is an ideal way for the Butt & Oyster to prepare for full opening, probably in early July for them. It could be outdoor spaces only at first, depending on government guidelines, but general manger Dale Russell told Nub News the staff are ready and raring to welcome customers back.
