A friend and former neighbour of ex Shotley Community Warden Matthew Clarke has set up a Just giving page to buy a commemorative waterfront bench.

Mr Clarke, died, aged 52, following battle with a form of brain cancer at his home town in Saskatchewan, Canada where he had lived for eight years and had carved out a new career as a Caterpillar heavy duty mechanic.

The HMS Ganges Museum is home to a replica VC, awarded to Leading Seaman Magennis for his heroics in freeing explosives and helping to save the crew of a midget submarine in an attack on the Japanese cruiser Takao in Singapore,

Roast pork from the Outlook (for more pictures scroll right on the top image)

The Hungry Hack is back and today I reviewed the roast dinner at the Outlook. A little restaurant tucked away within Fox's Marina at Wherstead, after a customer recommended Nub News checked it out.

Given a choice of pork, gammon and beef, I went for the pork at £11.95. It was a bit disappointing to learn there was no crackling with it but the server was apologetic and did warn me in advance.

15-year-old Toby Bourne and Richard Cooper on their charity walk

A teenaged living history buff admitted being 'knackered but proud' after completing a charity walk on the Shotley peninsula in full World War One uniform, complete with rifle.

Toby Young, 15, from Shotley yomped the eight mile (13km) route along the Orwell river path yesterday, along with dad Nick and fellow Living Historian Richard Cooper, who also wore full kit with the Essex Regiment insignia.

Did you know? In 2014, the 3,000th edition of the BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs, which was first broadcast on 29th January 1942. The guest for the 3,000th show was 95 year old Eric 'Winkle' Brown, the Navy Fleet Air Arm's most decorated pilot and the record holder for the most flight deck landings. He died two years after the broadcast and there is statue of him at Edinburgh airport. Not may people know this, but HMS Ganges played a part in the formation of the Fleet Air Arm.

Stutton Primary

A peninsula mum has explained why she has become one of the latest parents to take their child out of school, after failing to get reassurance over Covid-19 protection for pupils.

The mother has withdrawn her daughter from Stutton Primary School after increased coronavirus concerns were raised before the second lockdown, about students and parents coming in from Essex, which was in Tier 2 at the time, and parents congregating near the school gates without proper social distancing.

Stuart Keeble, the Suffolk director of Public Health England, has warned Babergh residents need to continue to take the coronavirus threat seriously after latest figures showed the district now has a rate of more than 100 cases per 100,000 per population, one of the highest in Suffolk.

Babergh recorded 91 new cases in the seven days leading up to Tuesday, (November 10) and took the weekly case rate to 101, and the cumulative figure to 761.
