Shotley resident are looking forward to good night of uninterrupted sleep after saying goodbye and good riddance to the jack up rig Prospector 5.

Three large tugs and a pilot boat inched the rig, used on oil and gas fields, slowly but surely along the river Stour, with world class sailor Terry Scutcher, passing her by a couple of times, before she went round the point to Felixstowe and out into the North Sea.

On This Day: in 868, St. Edmund, Saxon king of East Anglia, was martyred by the Vikings, who tied him to a tree, shot at him with arrows, then beheaded him. He gave his name to the town Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk. Some say St. Edmund could be buried in what is now Abbey Gardens next to St Edmundsbury Cathedral. He is the patron saint of kings and against plaque and torture. St. Edmund is honored as a martyr of the church.

On this day in 2014; Benjy, a bull branded gay, was saved by charity donations, including £5,000 from Sam Simon, the co-creator of the Simpsons. Benjy, from County Mayo, Ireland, had been destined for the abattoir after showing more interest in breeding with other bulls than cows.
