Your chance to back Save Erwarton Queen group

The group behind a community bid to buy the Queen's Head in Erwarton are holding a public meeting to garner further support.

A working group of six villagers are behind the bid and are holding the meeting at Harkstead village hall on Thursday March 10 at 7.30pm, in a bid to recruit more support from across the Shotley peninsula.

Chaired by William Wrinch, with Steve Smith as treasurer, Rob Powell, secretary and Graham Aubrey, Andy Scott and Richard Gadd as committee members, the group is keen to spread the word and gauge the level of backing.

A grants and funding expert from Babergh will be at the meeting to offer advice and support. A director of another successful community pub bid is also due to attend.

A feasibility survey and valuation has been carried out by a Plunkett Foundation surveyor, which has given the group confidence to press ahead with their ambitions.

The group has launched a website for everyone interested to be able to use for information and also to register their support. erwartonqueen.co.uk.

Among the aims of the group is to appoint tenants that share their vision to re-open the Queens Head as a community pub and build a thriving business which is a hub for not only the village of Erwarton but the wider area.

It plans to make it a traditional family friendly pub providing good food and a range of beers and ciders at prices which are reasonable to the whole community, locally produced where possible.

As a community hub the Queen's Head would provide space for local groups to meet.

It would also make welcome the many visitors that come to the peninsula, walkers, cyclists, yachtsmen and campers.

Nub News revealed last year how villagers were looking to make a bid for the Queen's Head when it went on the market. Full story here...

We understand an offer by a private buyer had been accepted by the current owners, however that has since been withdrawn.
