How Woolverstone flowers flourished decades after gift sowed seed

A green-fingered Woolverstone gardener has revealed the secret behind his colourful success.

Harold Ship has been tending this garden on the Main Road through the village for 30 years and the results are simply stunning.

The roots of the plants which bring about such a vidid pallet of reds, blues, golds, greens and yellows, go back to a seeds and a cutting given to Harold's father in 1938, by a fellow Chelmondiston gardener and have been grown in this Woolverstone garden for 55 years.

Harold told Nub News: "The original Salvia cutting and seeds were in a little packet and given to my father by an old boy from Chelmondiston because he knew it would be looked after.

"It takes a lot of hard work and time but I love my garden."

Harold's eye-catching beds contain Salvias, Moody Blues, and French marigolds, among others and as our pictures show, produce wonderful results.

Salvias are a symbol of fidelity, and can be the perfect addition to any wedding. The bushy nature of Moody Blues make them ideal for filling out gaps in borders and are perfect for cottage gardens. French marigolds can grow up to two foot tall, and love to spread out.
