Peninsula pubs and restaurants are set to tempt customers next month as they take advantage of a 50% discount scheme.

Nub News last week revealed the first batch of our locals that are offering deals to diners and now we can bring you news of two other pubs with differing approaches.

Damon at the Freston Boot, which was recently listed as having one of the county's best pub gardens, told Nub News: "We will be participating in the 'eat out to help out' scheme and we will offer 50% off our full ever changing fresh menu every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday through out August.

"We have been overwhelmed with the fantastic feed back from guests of the last two weeks on how safe people feel.

"We put a lot of work on redesigning the lay out and service to ensure guests will feel safe and reassured when dining at The Freston Boot."

The garden at Tattingstone's Wheatsheaf Beerhouse, also draws a lot of praise and the pub will be fully reopening to its regulars tonight at 6pm until 10pm.

However, as it does not open on any of the three days the 50% voucher scheme operates, it will not help owners Anna and Kevin.

Famed for its real ale, the Camra-award winning Wheatsheaf has plenty signage, sanitisers, tissues and bins everywhere and already has a good two meters between indoor tables. There is no standing or sitting at bar, and providing extra space for through-ways to "amenities", reduce their maximum indoor capacity substantially.

All three Shotley pubs, the Shipwreck, Bristol Arms and Rose Inn, along with the White Horse in Tattingstone, have so far declared how they will be running the discount scheme.

Shane at the Bristol Arms has welcomed the scheme and said: "he eat out voucher scheme is an interesting, novel idea.

"It seems like a win-win for businesses and customers alike. We'll certainly be trying to sign up so our customers can benefit.

"I hope everyone takes advantage of it and it encourages people to safely venture back out and support businesses in their local communities."

Simon Boyton at the White Horse told Nub News is keen he, and his customers manfully utilise the boost.

"From the information that I have read it will operate mon to weds through August and can be used as many times as wanted," said Simon.

"Hopefully it will bring extra customers in and I will be open for meals lunch and evening.

"As this is the the summer period I will be open all day from 12 till 11pm, I probably stop serving food at 9 pm but it will be dependent on demand.

"I try to never turn away customers."

As Sarah and Jamie at the Rose usually have Monday and Tuesday off, they will only be doing the offer on Wednesday, but customers can make the most of the deal between 12noon and 2pm, and then 5pm until, 7.30pm although the pub will be open until 8pm.

The Bull at Brantham is still undergoing refurbishment work on its kitchen, which was burnt out on New Year's Eve, but hopes too be back in time offer discounted meals by August.

A government initiative designed to stimulate the economy, allows food establishments to offer a 50% discount on food and soft drinks up to maximum of £20 per person, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday throughout August.

The owners give you the discount on your meals and softs drinks direct and then claim the money back from the government.

More pubs and restaurants are expected to sign up to the government scheme, although some may not for a variety of reasons. Nub News will keep you updated.
