A disabled woman who struggled to have essential supplies delivered by supermarkets has thanked neighbours and Nub News, after Sainsury's made her a priority customer.

Sharon Kennedy, of Queensland, Shotley was told by a supermarket, in an automated email, she was not vulnerable enough to receive priority deliveries.

She posted her plight on social media and neighbours, including a community group, immediately rallied round to help her, including one lady who gave up one of her own delivery slots.

A couple of residents contacted Nub News to see what we could do and a member of Sainsbury's executive team called us back for further details.

Since then the supermarket giant has spoken directly with Ms Kennedy and given her a regular Friday delivery spot, which means she can also shop for her 80-year-old mum at the same time.

Ms Kennedy, known as Shazz to her friends, said: "The lady from Sainsbury's was lovely and I have a regular slot now.

"I would like to thank the Good Neighbours Group, Nub News, and my neighbours for being amazing and supportive while I'm self-isolating and unable to shop for myself. Everyone has been lovely."

"It wasn't just Sainsbury's that would not deliver, but it was other supermarkets too."

Wheelchair-user Ms Kennedy, who has an assistance dog called Callie, is usually an active member of the community, supporting many projects, but due to her underlying medical conditions was forced to self-isolate before the lock down came into force.
